Healthy gas storage brings prices down
Gas prices fell by over 3% in the past week as healthy EU gas storage levels and several Liquified Natural Gas (LNG) deliveries helped reduce the risk associated with winter conditions. Demand is expected to remain low as forecasted temperatures are forecast to stay above seasonal norms. Electricity prices also dropped thanks to the supply-demand outlook for gas contracts, the Heysham 1-2 nuclear reactor adding 480 MW to the UK baseload capacity, and a 3% reduction to carbon prices as a no-deal Brexit prospect creates uncertainty on the UK’s continuation in the EU Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS).
