Low demand over Christmas and New Year brings prices down
Last week's demand was around 15% lower than expected at this time of year, due to mild temperatures causing gas prices to decrease. Temperatures fell towards the end of the week to around -3°C, causing demand to creep back up above seasonal norms. Luckily the gas system was still oversupplied and was able to compensate. Electricity followed gas prices downwards throughout the Christmas and New Year period, also decreasing to levels seen last in October.
